Frangipani Street Party

Now this is the sort of thing that I know our suburb is capable of. The residents of Frangipani have had enough of being the street that has a major incident every Saturday. So, what's the solution? HAVE A PARTY. On the 12th of December The residents rented a jumping castle, got a couple of braai's out onto the corner and invited all 140 plus or minus, residents to bring their tables and chairs and of course the food and drink out to celebrate living in the village. After all it is FIESTA time. With all that is happening in the village crime wise, we have the choice. We can either let the criminals drive us into hiding, or we can take back our streets. I like the take back our streets. If we need to do it street by street, well then, by Jove, as they say, we shall do it. A famous quotation that comes to mind is this.
"We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in Gods good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old."
I spew forth but this is the sort of attitude that we need to take into the New Year and beyond. It is a war, and one that we must win.
Congratulations to the Residents of Frangipani for organizing what looked to be a very successful street party. Unfortunately I couldn't stay, and I have heard that certain members only finished the party at 11.00 pm. a fine time was had by all. It was truly wonderful to see the kids playing in the street again and hearing the sound of fun and laughter echoing through the homes of one street in the village. I hope this spirit is highly contagious.

If you have something planned or happening, and think it should appear in the web news please contact me to take pictures and write the story. I would also like to hear of exceptional residents, people who are doing great things in or outside of the village.

Beyers Naude / Fiskaal Cleanup

After two years of asking begging and pleading Parks and national roads, the residents of Fiskaal and Mimosa roads finally had enough and decided to do things themselves. A letter went out to the 97 residents in the two roads, a date set and we were all set to clean up. The main goal was to remove the alien trees used as shelter and toilet facilities by the vendors.
Well, as you see on the pictures, we achieved the goal. All the large trees were felled and cut into manageable sizes.
I would like to thank the following authorities for helping:
Captain Andre Lamprecht and Inspector Sharon Malan of the Honeydew Police Station. Metro police for assisting in the removal of the vendors and their supplies.
And the following Residents:
Shayne and Bronwyn who rented chain saws and bought refreshments, many thanks.
Nicholas the mad American tree feller. Shayne and Nicholas were the main tree fellers and returned on Sunday to poison the left-over stumps.
Rod Rankine, who by the way, arranged for a skip to remove all the building rubble at the top of Randpark Drive, well done.
Phil Culham who hung in there the whole day and moved piles of branches.
Mac and Bernice for letting their Gardener assist us.
Brian who came and worked like a Trojan for the morning.
Kobie, our RRVA supervisor who also helped to move trees, fetch petrol, drinks, and the general grunt work.
Derek Wood who supplied tools and moved trees.
Wolfgang who lent us his chain saw.
Greg Pearce who moved trees helped the SAPS remove the vagrants and organized his wife, Sharon to supply refreshments.
Apologies from Imraan who had wanted to help but was suffering from painful broken ribs.
And lastly to Penny, Le-Anne and McKenna, for the cheering squad and moral support.
All in all, it was a very successful day and a lot was achieved.
I went back the next day to check up on the after effects of the job done, and I must say, the vagrants have moved, and the vendors have also moved on.
It is a pity that more residents were not able to assist us but we understand that many people work on weekends. To those that helped, once again, THANKS VERY MUCH. There are more projects that we would like to undertake.
Let's work together to make this the best Suburb in Johannesburg.
Best wishes to all and a great festive season
